Clinical Seminar for Professionals: The Myth of Misbehavior

CMHRC Collaborates with Two Legendary Researchers in
Bipolar Disorder

CMHRC is excited to announce collaborations this winter and spring with two legendary researchers: Dr. David Miklowitz and Dr. Demitri Papolos.

February 19th, Dr. David Miklowitz Joins Us For
A Webinar on Bipolar's Impact on Women & Girls

Much of the information available on bipolar disorder doesn't take into consideration its unique impact on women and girls. But Dr. Miklowitz, Professor of Psychology at UCLA and author of the influential book The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide, gives special consideration to this very topic. In this book, he shines a light on the complexity of the intersection of women's reproductive health, bipolar disorder symptoms, and psychiatric treatment.

A pioneering researcher in the development of family-centered therapies for bipolar disorder and depression Dr. Miklowitz explores what he calls "bipolar self-management," focusing on the importance of building routines, maintaining stability, and recognizing early warning signs of mood swings.

On February 19th, Dr. Miklowitz will join us for a very special conversation about the impact of bipolar disorder on women and girls.

“We are absolutely thrilled to host Dr. Miklowitz! His work is already incredibly meaningful to the folks in our community and we can't wait to explore this important topic with him and to gain from his insights,” says Jennifer Sevick, CMHRC's Clinical Director.

The Myth of Misbehavior: Differentiating Misbehavior
from Symptoms in Children and Teens

We often hear parents, teachers, and other adults use words like, “chose,” “refused,” and “decided”, when talking about the behavior of kids and teens, as in “the child decided to misbehave”. But, in many cases, the child in question is dealing with symptoms over which they have no control and they lack the coping skills necessary to manage them.

Join us for this deep dive into differentiating misbehavior from symptoms of mental illness, hone your skills, learn more effective interventions, and get tips on how to coach the parents on understanding this key distinction.
